On Tuesday 27th September divers and the magazine National Geographic have informed about new discovery. In small village, located in southern Moravia, named Hranice a flooded cave system was explored. A combined group of Czech natural explorers and Polish divers under the lead of Krzysztof Starnawski made a measurement with the help of guidance rope up to –200 meters below the see level. Afterwards the operator of the explorer robot, lead the way just by his instincts up to the depth od -370 meters below the see level. Than he just followed the sides of cave, until he reached the depth of -404 metres below the see, when the length of robots control cable run out and the group had to stop the work.

The spelunkers had always believed that the world record could be broken there. To these days the record was held by Italian abyss Pozzo del Mero with the total depth of -392 metres below the see level.

As the main explorer says, the research is not over and i tis still believed, that the abys is even more deep, than is beeing considered now. „Now, it is only about the tehnics“ said the leader of the group Lukáš.

The chasm of Hranice takes place on the right bank of river Bečva in the national nature reservation. This location makes a perfect turist destination out of it. I tis only 23 kilometres far from the nearest big town – Přerov where extensive archeological sites have been discovered, mostly from the period of mammoth hunters. If you také the other direction, straight to the East, you will find an awesome industrial city called Ostrava. There you may find huge expositions and museums concerning mostly coal digging during the communist era in Czechsolovakia. Also, there is still one deep underground mine opened for the visitors.
